Bonn Sustainable AI conference 2023

Sustainable AI Across Borders, May 30th to June 1st  2023, Universitätsclub Bonn, Germany

This is the second Sustainable AI conference organized by the Bonn Sustainable AI lab at Bonn University’s Institute for Science and Ethics (IWE). The focus of the first conference in June 2021 was to create a community of researchers in the space of Sustainable AI and to raise awareness on the topic. The second conference will focus on cross cultural perspectives to address the variety and scope of ethical issues on a global scale. An inspiration for this theme is to acknowledge the reality that certain countries play an integral role in the early
production phase and the waste management but may never experience the benefits of AI.

Call for Abstracts: Young Researchers Workshop

Before the conference date, on May 29, we organize an exclusive Young Researchers Workshop for early career researchers (Master students, PhDs, early career PostDocs) working on any topic related to the conference theme, “Sustainable AI Across Borders”. The aim of this workshop is to create a space for early career researchers to discuss and refine their work in a critical but encouraging environment and to build a thriving research community.

Participants of the Young Researchers Workshop will be asked to hand in an unpublished paper (full or work-in-progress) before the workshop date. At the workshop, participants will give a 5-minute recap of their work followed by a 30-minute feedback round. We invite several outstanding senior researchers presenting at the Bonn Sustainable AI Conference 2023 to join, discuss with, and mentor participants.

Participants are welcome to stay and attend the Bonn Sustainable AI Conference 2023 in the days after the workshop.

Applicants are asked to submit:

  • An abstract (max. 500 words) describing an unpublished, original research paper on any topic related to the workshop theme of “Sustainable AI Across Borders”.
  • A motivational letter (max. 2 pages) detailing the applicant’s career status, affiliation, connection of their research to the workshop’s theme and motivation for applying to the Young Researchers Workshop.

Email for abstract submission: bolte@iwe.uni-bonn.de

Deadline for abstract submissions: February 28, 2023

Successful applicants will be asked to submit full papers before the workshop date.
Deadline for submission of full papers: May 1, 2023
